Hello, and welcome to my new blog. My name is Denise, and I have blogged for many years at Green Crafting, a papercraft ideas site. However, a wrist injury has forced me to cut down on the amount of crafting that I have been able to do recently. Consequently, I have been spending more time on another hobby--reading. I like to read all sorts of things, including books, magazines, poetry, short stories, etc. I have noticed that when I am looking for a new book to read, there are plenty of websites with reviews and recommendations. However, it is harder to find sites that recommend interesting short stories to read. So, I decided to start my own, which is what you are reading now.
And here is my inaugural post, with all the info about the first story that I am recommending.
Title: Spin the Wheel
Author: Ann Turner
Genre: general fiction
Time to read: 15 minutes. I enjoyed it with a cup of coffee and a slice of challah.
Found in: Saint Anthony Messenger magazine, July 2017 issue. This is one of the few magazines I know of that still prints fiction. It is a religious magazine (Catholic), but I think that anyone could enjoy this story. It's not a preachy story, and the heroine, while likeable, is no saint.
Storyline: A single woman nervously tries an online dating service for the first time. The story tells about her interactions with her first three "matches."
Illustration: A very cool mixed media piece by Isabelle Cardinal. Excellent for cat-lovers. :)
Notes: I don't know much about Internet dating sites, since I was already happily married before services like eHarmony and match.com became popular. Therefore, it was very interesting for me to see what kinds of experiences the heroine of this story had when she tried such a service for the first time. The story gave me a peek into an unfamiliar world.

This sounds like a great story, and with a slice of chaplain and a nice cuppa sounds even better. Have a nice week and a happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

sounds to be a good Story... happy t-day:)
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting story... I can relate to not being able to do your crafts due to injuries. When my back is really acting up all I can do is lay on an ice pack and read. I've read a lot of books in the past 3 years since the injury that started all of this . Thanks for joining in and look forward to more post. Thanks also for stopping by my blog ♥
ReplyDeleteI was simply THRILLED to see you back online again. What a great idea for a new blog. And a great service you are providing for people who love to read, but don't have time for 600 page books. It was really great seeing you posting again and, although I knew you had wanted to take a break, I was surprised when you were gone so long. I'm delighted to have you back with a new blog and am honored to be part of your first post by joining us for T this Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks. :)
DeleteSounds like an interesting read! Happy T- Day Denise! Great to meet you at TSFT!
ReplyDeleteHappy rest of your week!

People are alway recommending books to read, but I never seem to make the time. Nice idea to recommend short stories. I like the idea of taking a break to read something short with a cup of tea and a treat. Challah bread would be delicious. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI must say I do enjoy short stories! This one looks like a fun read! I like the ones in the Sunday Express magazine! Belated Happy T day! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteHappy T Tuesday! I look forward to your reading suggestions. I read a lot but don't often read short stories. You'll broaden my horizons :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the T-party, Denise. It's nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day! Eileen
Welcome back Denise. I'm sorry to hear you have been injured but every cloud has a silver lining, and your blog is just that.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great idea to recommend short stories. This one sounds really interesting.
I never read short stories, probably because I have no access to English language magazines. I can get plenty os short stories on Kindle and perhaps I should try some. You have inspired me.
Happy belated T-Day,
Lisca
PS I love the design and lay-out of your new blog
Sounds like a great read and the sort of thing I would enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHappt T Day--a bit late
Love Chrissie xx
I would love to read that. Sometimes it's nice to have something quick to read, when you don't have time for a book. Magazines are great for this. I look forward to your recommendations. Belated happy t day!
